East Asia | interservecanada.org

East Asian Region: Some of these countries are rich and well developed – others are poor and struggling economically – many depend on foreign aid. In some countries, Christianity is well established, thriving and reaching out to the rest of the world. In many others the church is small and lives tenuously in unsympathetic environments.

Religions: Large parts of East Asia are officially atheist, but traditional religions such as Buddhism and Taoism are also widespread.Christianity has been growing in this region at an amazing rate and estimates of the numbers of Christians in the region range from 50 million to 100 million. There is a significant number of Muslims in the region, particularly in the north-west.

How we’re involved: Some of these countries are rich and well developed – others are poor and struggling economically – many depend on Interserve’s work in several East Asian countries. It is a challenging part of the world in which to work with its many needs and numerous opportunities. There are plenty of places for flexible, servant-hearted, skilled Christians to live and serve and model Christ. Examples of Interserve projects in the region: Engineering, forestry, language teaching, and business.
